Board Game Simpsons Clue

The Simpsons ClueSimpsons Clue, like Scooby Doo Clue, uses the same rules as the original board game. The game doesn't include any rules variants or new instructions. (An example of a licensed Clue game that DOES have different rules and variations is Clue: Harry Potter.) The only difference is the use of the characters and settings from the television series The Simpsons to make the game more appealing to fans of the show.

The Simpsons version of the game is so popular that it's been published in at least three different editions, maybe more.

What Is The Simpsons?

The Simpsons actually has similarities to Scooby Doo, the other great example of a cartoon that was converted into a game of Cluedo. It's a long-running television series with a huge fan base and an ensemble cast. (The Simpsons features a much bigger ensemble than Scooby Doo though.)

The Simpsons Clue RulesThe Simpsons also has similarities to another prime time cartoon, The Flintstones. It's a classic sitcom premise, with a clueless dad, his long-suffering wife, and their kids. But Homer Simpson, the patriarch, is clueless to a fault. He makes Ray Romano look like a genius in comparison. Indeed, all of the characters on The Simpsons are intense exaggerations of other television sitcom stereotypes.

Matt Groening created The Simpsons in 1989. Since then, the show has aired for 23 seasons, which makes it the longest running US sitcom AND the longest running animated show. The show has won 27 Emmies and 27 Annies.

How to Play Simpsons Clue - Rules and Instructions

The rules and instructions for Simpsons Clue are identical to the original game rules. The game begins with the players randomly determining who the killer is, what weapon they used is, and what location they were in when they committed the murder.

Then the players move around the game board making guesses about the facts of the case. Players have cards in their hand which are used to disprove the various theories about the case. When a player thinks she's solved the mystery, she can guess at the actual facts in the case. If she's right, she wins. If she's wrong, she's out of the game.

Simpsons Clue Characters

The Simpsons Clue - 1st EditionThe characters in Simpsons Clue are based on both the original game and on the television series. Instead of Mr. Boddy being the murder victim, Mr. Burns has been shot and killed. Here's a list of Simpsons Clue characters:

  • Homer - He's Mr. Green.
  • Krusty - He's Colonel Mustard.
  • Marge - She's Mrs. Peacock.
  • Lisa - She's Miss Scarlet.
  • Bart - He's Professor Plum.
  • Waylon (Mrs. White--this is an in-joke about Waylon Smithers' not-so-ambiguous sexuality on the show.)

Simpsons Clue Murder Weapons and Game Board Locations

Here's a list of the Simpsons Clue murder weapons:

  • A poisoned donut
  • An extend-o-glove
  • A necklace
  • A slingshot
  • A plutonium rod
  • A saxophone

And here's a list of locations in Simpsons Clue:

  • The Springfield Retirement Castle
  • The Simpson's House
  • The Frying Dutchman
  • The Android's Dungeon
  • Mr. Burns' Mansion
  • Krustylu Studios

Who Is Interested in Simpsons Clue?

People who are interested in collection Clue editions will want to get a copy of this version, and it's not an expensive version either. I found a copy for $39.99 on eBay. Simpsons collectors will probably want a copy of this game, too, along with all of the other licensed The Simpsons games out there, of which there are many.

Other The Simpsons theemed board games include Scene It? The Simpsons Deluxe Edition, Simpsons Homer Head UNO, Jeopardy Game Simpsons Edition, Monopoly Simpsons Electronic Edition, and The Simpsons Wheel of Fortune Game, among others.
