Clue: Master Detective - AKA Super Cluedo

Clue: Master Detective is a revised or second edition of Clue (or Cluedo, as it's known in England and some other countries.) In come countries, this variant is called Cluedo: Master Detective, while in some other countries, it's also called Super Cluedo. Clue: Master Detective was published in 1988.

Clue: Master Detective Rules - Super Cluedo Instructions

The rules and instructions for Clue: Master Detective and Super Cluedo are the same, as they're just two different names for the same game. The Clue: Master Detective rules DO have differences from the original Clue board game, and this section of the article will point out those differences. (The main differences are pointed out right on the box--more suspects, more rooms, and more weapons.)

Clue: Master Detective Characters

Clue: Master Detective features a bigger character list than the original game. Versions of the classic Clue characters are still there, but here is a complete list of Clue: Master Detective characters that includes both the original characters and the additions:

How to Play Clue Master Detective

Learning how to play Clue: Master Detective is easy if you've ever played Clue, because it's played the same way. The game starts with a character, a weapon, and a room being chosen at random. (They're used as cards, which are put into an envelope.) These cards represent what happened.

The players' goal is to determine who killed Mr. Boddy, with what weapon, and in what room. This is done via the process of elimination, as follows.

A player moves into a room and suggests a possible solution that includes a character, a weapon, and a room. If any of the other players can disprove an aspect of that solution, they must do so. (Each player has a number of cards.) Each player can use a tally sheet to cross off the possibilities as they're exhausted.

Once you think you've figured it out, you can check to see if you're correct. If you're wrong, you're out of the game.

In Super Cluedo, the rooms are closer to each other, and the game is played with two dice instead of one, which increases the rate at which players can explore rooms and guess at solutions.

The other big difference in this version of the game is that when players have cards that can disprove a theory, then they ALL have to present their evidence. In the original game, play goes around the table, and as soon as a single person can disprove a theory, the turn ends.

One would think that with the additional characters, weapons, and rooms, that Super Cluedo would take more time to play than the original. But because of the additional dice, smaller mansion, and the new rule about everyone showing evidence, it actually plays faster than the original game.

Clue: Master Detective is out of print and collectible, but you can find collectibles sellers on the Internet selling copies for as little as $35.
